Hi everyone,
I'm new to the group and have started tinkering with serial control on
the Daisy MP3 board.
I've found a thread on the topic, but it was unresolved. Does anyone
have any info on how the project turned out?

Best Regards,
Alex.

I've just received my ooPic III+ starter package so plenty of fun in
store for me!
I've not had a lot to do with PIC / Robotics, etc before... I'm a
mainframe Systems Programmer of 35 years standing (Z/os Assembler,
etc)& just getting into this for a hobby.
One thing hopefully someone could clear up for me... How do I go about
& what would I need to interface ooPic with my Laptop?
I understand how I can attach the parallel cable supplied & re-program
it, but don't understand how I can exchange data between Laptop &
ooPic while ooPic is running.
Am I correct in assuming the parallel cable is just used for
downloading new program to chip & so couldn't be used to interface
when running ooPic?
What happens when the program is downloaded to ooPic.. Does it start
executing straight away, or only when the parallel cable is released?
(I'm waiting for an old Laptop I ordered off eBay to turn up, my one,
like most modern Laptops doesn't have serial or parallel interfaces (I
tried a USB / Parallel port converter, but it didn't work)... so I
can't try out yet).
The manual I downloaded from ooPic site seems to have a lot of
references to sections that are missing from the manual, as always
they are the ones I need!
I see ooPic supports I2C interface, but can't see how I would
interface that to my Laptop ...an I2C PC network card if there is such
a beast?
If I2C is the way to do it, presumably I would have to have knock up
something to monitor & react on the Laptop... Visual Basic prog?
The sort of thing I have in mind is a voice synthesizer attached to
ooPic & AI running on PC. PC would read state of ooPic attached
sensors & chose appropriate response, send it to ooPic which would
drive the voice chip.
One route I might consider is Wireless or IR which would be good for a
mobile project... but the cost seems out of proportion at the moment.
Any help appreciated,
Cheers,
Steve.
