Setup a Virtual PC that's running on XP, install the oopic compiler in the
Virtual PC, write the code, connect the oopic to the laptop via serial port,
etc. all the basic stuff. The http://www.oopic.com/ site has all this
information. If you haven't noticed, there was a similar topic on this not
long ago.

You can hook up an LCD to your OOPic and let the LCD display the "Address"
property of what ever object you're using to control your LED. I'm not an
OOpic pro, Im doing the best I can to help. Most of our active and "best"
members (I guess) are "laying back" for a while, after a recent "dispute".

Not completely sure, but V4,5, and 6 you refer to are the IDE
(Integrated Development Environment.) Your chips have an 'A' version
of the firmware.

Its' ALL compatible!
V6 is apparently pulled from the site. I think that you can use ANY
version of IDE with ANY chip version. HOWEVER you cannot use chip
commands for any chip version LATER than what you have.
You must use only commands available for chip version A. You can use
any version IDE but you must confine yourself to commands used in
your chip version. See the Manual for a list of Objects available for
each chip version.

I heard about sending 'em back and including a few bucks and getting
the new firmware blah blah blah. Search the messages. Never did it
myself, I just learn to call 'bugs' something different,
like 'undocumented features'.

Thanks for the reply Ian.
I have ordered a MAX220 based TTL-RS232 convertor & intend to go the
route you suggest... anything else looks full of potential pitfalls.
I went for: http://www.tronisoft.com/4201.php
At least I understand RS-232 & this converter comes with it's own
basic terminal program & loads of documentation including VB6 examples.
So at the moment I am waiting for the Old Laptop with a serial &
parallel port, the TTL-RS232 converter & VB6 (I hadn't used VB for
yonks, when I tried to load my old VB CD it just i/o errored, so have
got myself VB6). Then hopefully the fun can begin.
I couldn't resist buying this for a tenner off Ebay:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=260262756076
RF 433MHz Transmitter and Receiver Module Pair.
Manufactured by RF Solutions.
Transmitter - AM-RT4-433
* Transmit range up to 100m
* CMOS/TTL input
* No adjustable components
* Very stable operating frequency
* Low current consumption
* Low spurious emissions (-35dBc)
* Wide operating voltage (2-14v)
Receiver - AM-HRR3-433
* Compact hybrid AM Receiver module
* Very high frequency stability (with no adjustable components)
* Receiving range up to 50 metres
* CMOS/TTL compatible output
* Single 5V supply.
* Low current consumption.
So when I have the hard wired serial link worked out, I will play with
this next... I'm thinking wiring the receiver up to the RS232 - TTL
convertor at Laptop end.
Cheers,
Steve.

We are here not here to give flat out answers. We are here to HELP get
those answers. Just asking for flat out answers is usually rude. You
should read up on the basics of programming an OOPic and how to use the
SRF05.

Please excuse me for replying to an old message, but I'm still trying
to figure out my next move...
This week I dragged out my old oopic (2,vb1.0), only to find out it
won't talk to my laptop. With the help of people here, I've been
trying to decide whether to rewire it, upgrade it, or replace it. I'd
just about decided to stick a new one on the credit card. However, it
looks like even the latest versions have usb interface problems, and
the software won't run on vista. Now I find out current units are
going to legacy status, even before they're operational on current
platforms (I've never seen a product go to legacy before the new
product is even designed before). It appears the support structure
for this product has gone to pieces.
I loved my old oopic2. And I'd love to replace it with something
similar. But I've put my credit card back in my wallet until I'm sure
I can buy something that works and will be supported. So my questions
are -
1. Is there a product or package of products that supports usb and
vista? Will it continue to be supported for a few years?
2. If not, is there going to be a product in the near future that
reliably supports usb and vista? If so, is there an expected date?
3. If not, is there a competing product with the same capabilities
that is currently available?
Thanks
Chris
