This Forum is Dedicated For all The Object Oriented PIC Lovers .......... The concept behind OOPic is straight forward. Use preprogrammed multitasking Objects from a library of highly optimized Objects to do all the work of interacting with the hardware. Then write small scripts in Basic, C, or Java syntax styles to control the Objects. During operation, the Objects run continuously and simultaneously in the background while the scripts run in the foreground telling the objects what to do.

[oopic] Trouble connecting to OOPic-R via serial cable

I am attempting to connect my PC to my OOPic-R for the first time, and
I have a problem. From the OOPic IDE, I am getting the following error
message, "Cannot find a serial cable connected to an ooPIC", when I
press the button labeled 'Find Serial Cable' under Tools->Cable
Configuration.

I have tested each lead of the cable and verified that all nine wires
are good. (It came as part of the OOPic-R package deal.)

My suspicion is that something related to the serial port
configuration settings is incorrect. Under the 'Find Serial Cable'
button, there are radio button selections for Comm 1 through Comm 6.
Ports 1,2,4,5,and 6 show "Not Installed" after the Comm number, while
Comm 3 shows Installed (literally, "Comm 3 - Installed"). However,
when I look at the Device Manager under the Windows XP control panel,
it shows one serial (communications) port named COM1.

The OOPic IDE seems to have 'found' (on its own) that only Comm 3 is
installed, while the OS states that only COM1 exists. Furthermore, if
this the source of my problem, I don't know how to tell the OOPic that
Comm 1 is really the port that is installed.

Anyone have any insight into this problem?

Dana
