This Forum is Dedicated For all The Object Oriented PIC Lovers .......... The concept behind OOPic is straight forward. Use preprogrammed multitasking Objects from a library of highly optimized Objects to do all the work of interacting with the hardware. Then write small scripts in Basic, C, or Java syntax styles to control the Objects. During operation, the Objects run continuously and simultaneously in the background while the scripts run in the foreground telling the objects what to do.

[oopic] Re: OOpic and USB cables

Let's assume that the board works. You don't understand the tests I
have presented and I must admit they seem like a long path. But each
step is necessary. First the simple tests of USB driver, cable,
loopback. Then the more complex tests with Hyperterminal using SCP to
talk to the chip. Finally, getting the IDE to talk to the chip. If
the board works...

Try this: Go find a piece-of-junk PC with a REAL serial port and
Windows 98. Then install V5 of the IDE/compiler. Use this to test
your board. Borrow a machine, pick one out of a dumpster, anything.
I still have a machine with PC-DOS 7 and Win98 in a dual boot
configuration.

With Win98 you you don't have to worry about NT related issues
(port95nt.exe) or USB (it probably won't have support for USB). The
software (V5) works well in this environment because that is where it
first started.

A hardware serial port with a straight-through cable is about as easy
as it gets.

You still have to understand the ESTOP concept I posted earlier.

But, you know, you have never replied to the tests I posted earlier.
If you think you can short circuit the debugging process, you are
wrong. You keep saying it doesn't work but you have never helped
narrow down WHAT doesn't work.

Do the tests in the order I presented them and post the results of
EVERY test. You will find it is quite possible to get your board to
work with a newer OS, V6 and a USB cable. But not by random walk...

And don't worry about the V5 versus V6 thing. I still don't use V6
and it has only been released for a couple of months. V5 works just
as well.
