OOPIC Forum

This Forum is Dedicated For all The Object Oriented PIC Lovers .......... The concept behind OOPic is straight forward. Use preprogrammed multitasking Objects from a library of highly optimized Objects to do all the work of interacting with the hardware. Then write small scripts in Basic, C, or Java syntax styles to control the Objects. During operation, the Objects run continuously and simultaneously in the background while the scripts run in the foreground telling the objects what to do.

I don't think there is an 'official' serial programming cable for the
II+. All you need is an RS232 dongle (I prefer
http://www.pololu.com/products/pololu/0126/) and a straight through
serial cable.

You need to connect 4 wires between the dongle and the board: +5V,
Gnd, TX and RX

The pin marked TX on the dongle is an output so it connects to pin 39
on the board or IOLine 23. The pin marked RX on the dongle is an
input and it connects to pin 37 or IOLine 22.

You will need this connection for programming, of course, but also for
having the PC interact with the OOPic. The good news about using a
dongle is that the voltage levels are correct and USB<->Serial cables
will work.

You can verify the connections: www.oopic.com -> Manual -> Connectors
and Mechanical -> ooPIC-S -> 40-Pin I/O Connector

Hi everybody,

I've just bought the OOPIC II+ but I accidently got the one with
paralel programming cable. Unfortunately, the link
(http://www.oopic.com/progcabls.htm) at the web site that tells how to
make the serial programming cable is not working so could you please
post the serial programming cable configurations so I can make my own
cable.

If the port were to be in use by another program the error would say exactly that. The error message quote would definitely help. Though first I'd check to see that your cable is physically connected to your PIC, that your PIC has power, and that your Target Device is configured correctly.

I have recently run into a problem with the OOPic compiler not
recognizing any of my serial ports. They are not coming up as
installed. I ran some tests over a week ago and communication via the
serial port worked without a hitch.

I am wondering if anyone knows if Labview, TeraTermPro, or AsmIDE has
caused conflicts with other programs in regards to the serial ports,
as installing those programs are the only new things that have
happened to the computer I am working with. I am using the Version
6.0 OOPic compiler running on Windows XP. I have attempted
uninstalling OOPic and the port95nt.exe file and reinstalling them,
but I still get the error that no installed serial ports were found.
If the exact error message is necessary I will be able to provide it
tomorrow.

I am now to be referred to as Dr. Jenkins haha ;) Took me about a month to get
fully accredited, but after ringing these ppl 1 415 267-3940 they got me setup
at an international uni and had me my BA in no time.

I can't give you the solution because I have never done this.
However, here are a couple of hints.

First, you need to find the entire I2C state machine code, I don't
know where to get it. Perhaps www.piclist.com or www.microchip.com.

I think you will need the fully interrupt driven state machine.

Second, you will be connecting the MCU to the OOPic LOCAL I2C bus -
the one that connects to the EEPROM.

Third, you get to select 7 or 10 bit addressing when you set up
SSPM3:SSPM0 which also selects the slave mode.

Fourth, if there is any way in the world you can change to SPI, you
might want to consider it. I2C is very difficult to get set up unless
you have a logic analyzer or storage scope.

The channel speed will be SLOW. The OOPic bit-bangs the LOCAL I2C
bus. I'm only guessing that the MCU will accept the VERY SLOW clock
signals but it should.

What functions will the MCU provide? Are there other ways to get the
same result? Could you just use another OOPic and connect them via
oDDELink?
