This Forum is Dedicated For all The Object Oriented PIC Lovers .......... The concept behind OOPic is straight forward. Use preprogrammed multitasking Objects from a library of highly optimized Objects to do all the work of interacting with the hardware. Then write small scripts in Basic, C, or Java syntax styles to control the Objects. During operation, the Objects run continuously and simultaneously in the background while the scripts run in the foreground telling the objects what to do.

RE: [oopic] Not a good start

Thanks for the advice Dennis. The laptop is indeed an IBM R32 ThinkPad. I've
located the active cable schematic. Is it a product I can purchase or do I
have to make it myself? Or is there another way to ground the existing cable
in another way?

This is hard to characterize without a lot of data. Some parallel ports
(IBM's quite often) use the one pin that the standard ooPIC parallel
cable uses as a ground as a printer detect pin, so the circuit doesn't
ground. Sometimes the port doesn't have the power to drive the
programmer cable/EEPROM. Sometimes you just have to tell the IDE what
parallel port to use and not let it detect. Also, if you have anything
"driving" the parallel port it will often take control away from the
ooPIC IDE. Examples of these "bad" drivers to the parallel port include
these items, even if they aren't currently attached to the parallel
port: CD-ROM drives, "Backpack" hard drives, tape backup drives and
other esoteric things like software oscilloscopes and logic analyzers.
Disable those drivers and the parallel port might come back.

when all else fails there is a circuit in the "files" section of the
group called "activecable.jpg" that shows how to build a cable that will
solve all hardware related problems with parallel port ooPIC programming.
