Yes. Although it's a little inconvenient, the best approach is
actually to use separate battery packs for logic [input power to oopic
v.reg] and motors. This helps keep motor noise off the logic side, and
also allows you to do a lot of software development work without
powering up the motors.
On some of my bots, I do use the same battery pack for both, but I am
very careful how I do the power connections, and also add a lot of
additional filtering capacitors on both sides.
