[oopic] Motor Alternate Power Source

I am running 4 servo motors off of the OOPic (two modified for
continuous rotation for movement, and two normal 180 degree servos). I
have been running them using 6 AA batteries in a battery pack but for
some reason the battery pack now heats up and causes the motors to
smoke. As far as I can tell (unless I'm using my multimeter wrong),
they're outputting 24V... Can anyone suggest a sufficient power
source/type & number of batteries for 4 motors?
