I have ordered the NTSC wireless camera for my first approximation.
There is a tutorial re: adding vision to a Lego NXT at the RoboRealm
site that discusses the camera, receiver and RGB->USB converter.
We'll see how it works out.

About 4 years ago I started to work on an R/C Hummer that I wanted to
have chase an orange soccer ball around the yard. I was never able to
get the CMUCam working well enough with local processing. I think the
wireless link for the camera and a BlueTooth link for the onboard CPU
(ATMega128?) should work out fine.

The parts should be here in a week or so.

On the high price end of things, the approach used by Surveyor is
terrific. There is a Blackfin on board (500 MHz) to handle the camera
interface and a Lantronix serial->Ethernet gadget to send the data
back to the host. RoboRealm can run on top of all this and control
the 'bot. But it's close to $500 for the 'bot and that's put it on
back burner until I learn a lot more about using computer vision.
