[oopic] OOPic Controller

Hey all,

Its been a couple years since i have dealt with any micro-controllers.
A friend of mine is working on his senior design project and i want to
recommend this controller. Is there a newer version of the OOPic II, or
something easier/better for him to use now-a-days? Any help would be
appreciated.
